Western Eyrie & Canyonlands (2012)
Media: Copper plate etching & aquatint
Edition size:
Inspiration:
Inspired by Western landscapes, I etched this image from my imagination after reading the biography of Thomas Moran & hiking the many canyon lands. Moran & his wife, Mary, were the two greatest early American printmakers who were responsible for the etching revival at the end of the nineteenth century. Thomas was also a celebrated landscape painter of uncharted Western territory. I chose the sepia tones one would find in old nineteenth century photographs.
